Psychology
Moira is a registered Health Psychologist and a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and holds membership within the APS College of Health Psychologists. She has been in the healthcare field for over twenty years and is passionate about improving wellbeing. Moira also consults in Yarraville and at the Melbourne Sleep Disorders Centre in East Melbourne. She also works at Monash University, Clayton, in the undergraduate psychology program. Some of Moira’s specific interests include sleep disorders (adults and adolescents, not young children), adjustment to illness, management of chronic illness, grief and loss, alcohol and drug issues, smoking cessation, weight management as well as psychological management of depression and anxiety (including phobias). She uses CBT skills, as well as Mindfulness-based therapy, as well as hypnosis.
Moira has recently commenced Walk and Talk, which means taking the therapy outdoors and walking while talking; for some of her patients, for some of the time. Some patients will prefer to not take up this option and keep the therapy in the traditional setting of the clinic room. This is a relatively new concept in Melbourne. Williamstown provides the perfect therapeutic setting for engaging with nature. The walking appears to encourage a more reflective, relaxed and contemplative state and can really enhance the therapeutic process. Moira is very happy to discuss this option further with you should you be interested.
